Mommy Makeover
Long Island, New York Yee Cheng Low, MD
Addressing Pregnancy’s Changes in a Single Recovery
- 2Weeks to desk work
- 6Weeks to lifting children
- 6–12Months to final shape

A mommy makeover combines breast and abdominal procedures — and often liposuction — into one operation, addressing the specific changes pregnancy and breastfeeding produce.
The rationale is practical. These changes occur together, and treating them together means one anesthetic, one recovery, and one period away from your family rather than three.
What Is a Mommy Makeover?
Not a fixed procedure — a customized combination. Yours is built from what actually changed.
- Abdominal restoration
- Tummy tuck with repair of separated abdominal muscles, removal of stretched skin, and liposuction of the flanks and waist.
- Breast restoration
- Depending on what happened to your breasts, this may be augmentation (volume loss), a lift (sagging with adequate volume), augmentation mastopexy (both), or reduction.
- Contour refinement
- Liposuction of the flanks, back, thighs, or wherever fat distribution changed.
- Fat grafting
- In selected patients, transferring harvested fat to the breasts, hips, or buttocks.
Benefits
- Addresses multiple areas in one operation
- One anesthetic, one recovery period
- Repairs abdominal muscle separation
- Restores breast shape and position
- Improves overall proportion
- Frequently more cost-effective than staged procedures
Who Is a Candidate?
You may be a good candidate if you:
- Have completed your family, or accept that further pregnancy will alter results
- Are at a stable weight and have finished breastfeeding (generally 3–6 months after stopping)
- Have abdominal skin laxity or muscle separation
- Have breast changes following pregnancy
- Are in good health with realistic expectations
- Have practical support at home for the first two weeks
That last point is not a formality. Combined procedures ask a genuine amount of you during recovery, and lifting a toddler is off the table for several weeks. Dr. Low will not schedule a mommy makeover without a clear plan for help at home — it is a safety issue as much as a comfort one.
Recovery & Expectations
Recovery reflects the abdominal component, which is the most demanding. Expect 2 weeks before returning to desk work and light activity, and 6 weeks before strenuous exercise or lifting children.
Swelling and tightness settle over the first two months, with contour and breast shape refining over six months to a year.
Related Procedures
Often considered alongside
Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)
Brachioplasty removes excess, sagging skin and fat from the upper arms to create a more toned, contoured appearance — a common concern after significant weight loss or as part of the natural aging process, when skin loses elasticity and “wing”-like laxity develops between the elbow and underarm.
ExploreThighplasty (Thigh Lift)
Thighplasty removes excess skin and tightens tissue in the inner and/or outer thighs, addressing laxity that often results from major weight loss, aging, or pregnancy.
ExploreBelt Lipectomy (Circumferential Body Lift)
A belt lipectomy removes excess skin and fat around the entire circumference of the lower torso — abdomen, flanks, and lower back — in a single procedure, often combined with muscle tightening for a smoother, more contoured midsection.
