Belt Lipectomy (Circumferential Body Lift)

Overview

A belt lipectomy removes excess skin and fat around the entire circumference of the lower torso — abdomen, flanks, and lower back — in a single procedure, often combined with muscle tightening for a smoother, more contoured midsection.

01

What Is Belt Lipectomy?

Where a tummy tuck addresses the front of the abdomen, belt lipectomy addresses the full circumference at once — removing the excess skin that remains after significant weight loss, whether from bariatric surgery or sustained lifestyle change, and that diet and exercise cannot resolve on their own.

The procedure is more extensive than a standard abdominoplasty: a longer incision, more significant recovery, and often an overnight hospital stay.

02

Benefits

  • Corrects excess, sagging skin around the entire lower torso
  • Improves waist definition and overall silhouette
  • Often relieves skin irritation and rashes beneath overhanging skin
  • Frequently combined with muscle repair for added core support
  • A foundational step in a broader post-weight-loss contouring plan
03

Who Is a Candidate?

You may be a good candidate if you:

  • Have experienced significant weight loss and are left with excess skin around the torso
  • Have skin laxity extending around the sides and back, not just the front of the abdomen
  • Are at a stable weight
  • Are in good general health, with medical clearance where prior bariatric surgery is involved
  • Have realistic expectations about scarring and recovery
04

Recovery & Expectations

Recovery is more demanding than a standard tummy tuck. Expect 2–3 weeks before returning to desk work, and 6–8 weeks before resuming strenuous activity or heavy lifting. An overnight hospital stay is typical.

Swelling, tightness, and altered sensation across the treated areas are expected early and improve steadily over the following months, with final contour refining over six months to a year.

05

Scar Placement & Healing

The incision encircles the lower torso, positioned to sit low enough to be concealed by underwear and most swimwear. Given the length and tension involved, scars take longer to mature than those from a standard abdominoplasty — Dr. Low discusses this trade-off directly, since it is often the largest scar a patient will carry from any procedure in a broader contouring plan.
