Augmentation Mastopexy
Long Island, New York Yee Cheng Low, MD
Lift and Volume, Planned as a Single Operation
- 7–10Days to desk work
- 6Weeks to upper-body exercise
- 6Months to judge the result

Augmentation mastopexy combines a breast lift with implant placement — raising the breast into position while restoring the upper-pole fullness that a lift alone cannot provide.
It is the right operation for a large number of patients, and it is also one of the more technically demanding procedures in aesthetic breast surgery. Two opposing forces are at work: the lift tightens the skin envelope, while the implant expands it. Balancing them is where experience shows.
What Is Augmentation Mastopexy?
The procedure reshapes and lifts the breast, repositions the nipple-areola complex, removes excess skin, and places an implant to restore volume — all in one operation.
The alternative is staging: lift first, implant several months later. Dr. Low will recommend staging where a single-stage procedure would compromise safety or the quality of the result, typically in cases of very significant ptosis or poor tissue quality.
Benefits of Augmentation Mastopexy
- Lifts the breast and restores upper-pole fullness simultaneously
- Corrects sagging while increasing volume
- Repositions and reduces the areola
- Improves symmetry
- Addresses post-pregnancy changes comprehensively
- One surgery, one recovery, one anesthetic
Who Is a Candidate?
You may be a good candidate if you:
- Have both sagging and loss of volume
- Have nipples sitting at or below the breast fold
- Want fuller breasts but recognize implants alone will not lift
- Have had children and want to address multiple changes at once
- Are at a stable weight with realistic expectations
Recovery & Expectations
Recovery reflects both components: expect 7–10 days before returning to desk work and 6 weeks before resuming upper-body exercise.
Because two competing changes are being made at once, settling takes longer than augmentation alone. Judge the result at six months. Revision rates for augmentation mastopexy are higher than for either procedure performed independently — Dr. Low will discuss this openly with you before surgery rather than after.
